Learn to keep yourself thinking with God
A testimony from L. S.
I am very grateful for Plainfield’s stand for and continual practice of independent thought. In the past I considered myself a nonconformists and free thinker. It was not until coming to Plainfield Church that I got a better understanding of what it really means to be an independent thinker. This is especially important in a world vying for control over the thoughts of individuals. I am learning the importance of vigilance in guarding my thinking to keep it clear and have gained a greater awareness of how thought can drift away from this alertness. The support and teaching here helps one remove the static and cutter in one’s thought so God can get through. The message in this church is not, “come think like us’’ but “learn to keep yourself thinking with God”. We are constantly reminded to turn to the Bible and writings of Mary Baker Eddy so we are acquainted with the different challenges in maintaining freedom of thought. I have gained a deeper appreciation for those who did not follow the current of thought, even against all odds, in order to preserve individual rights and freedoms. Until coming here I did not realize the power and importance of living this way. In Mary Baker Eddy’s article called Contagion she writes, “Floating with the popular current of mortal thought without questioning the reliability of its conclusions, we do what others do, believe what others believe and say what others say.” Thank you Plainfield Church for all you did and are doing to keep this as a priority.
