Don’t Think Just Love testimony

Izzy from England

I’d like to give thanks for the weekly Roundtables that are held and broadcast by this church. I really look forward to them every week and I appreciate the amount of work that goes into putting them together. It is the Roundtables, backed by the solid practices at the Plainfield Church, that have opened my eyes to the amazing reality of living Christian Science, and the potential of living this way.

Some time ago there was a lovely story shared on a Roundtable. I don’t remember if it was a member of the church or someone else but it was the story of a young woman who visited her boyfriend’s family for the first time. Years later, when she was married into the family, she asked what they had thought of her that time when they first met. They said “we didn’t think, we just loved.” This has really stayed with me and inspired me, and whenever I remember I try to do the same. It takes a conscious effort not to think something about anyone, but to hold thought firmly just loving them. I can’t say I get it right all the time, but I’m working on it, and this is just a really good thing to practice.

A few weeks ago I was driving along a country lane and a car came towards me. I had to stop, reverse and pull into the side to allow us to pass. I was thinking about how often when I’m driving somewhere, it seems that there always has to be that one car that comes along to block my way. And I started to feel a little bit frustrated. It eventually came to me that the cars that get in my way and supposedly hold me up, are just opportunities for love. Maybe the drivers of each car are just in need of a loving blessing, and God has sent them my way for me to send it to them. Or maybe each supposed obstacle is just an opportunity for me to learn and grow and overcome the temptation to feel anger or frustration. Whatever it is, realising this and putting it into practice has been a really good experience. I am very grateful to the person who brought this story to the Roundtable, and for that discussion at the Roundtable. I’m very grateful for everything that goes on at this church. I’m very grateful for Christian Science, it’s such a joyful way to live. And I’m so grateful to God for all the blessings I receive every day.
