Back-ache Healed Through Prayer
Shahidat, MD.
I would like to share a healing that I had earlier this week. I woke up very early Sunday morning and when it became evident that I was not going to be able to fallback asleep I went to our church website, a 24/7 reading-room to find an inspiring article to listen to. I downloaded Dorothy Rieke’s article, “Wonderful Things Are Happening” at 3 AM when all around me was silent except for the faint snores coming from my pup. I was able to concentrate and really take in the truths of this article. I was especially intrigued when Mrs. Rieke described God as being 50 billion miles all around me in each and every direction then 50 billion beyond that and 50 billion beyond that etc. I fell asleep contemplating the enormity of God’s infinity.
When I awoke at my normal time, I noticed that I seemed to have a tremendous ache in my back such that I was unable to take my dog for his usual morning walk. I resolved to hold to the truths of God’s infinity that I had listened to in the wee hours of the morning. If God was infinite and everywhere then there should be no room for a sore back. Later that evening when I had my regular practitioner call, the pain had lessened but not completely so I mentioned this seeming soreness to the practitioner who immediately countered with the spiritual truth of the situation and utterly refused to entertain the idea of any “backache.” As she reminded me if God is truly infinite where in that infinity could, I, the image of likeness of God have a pain wholly unlike God.
The next day Monday which was a work holiday, I was able to walk my dog in the morning then complete the weekend errands that I did not feel up to on Sunday. Not once did my thought ever contemplate what was or was not going on with my back. I just went about my day as usual. Tuesday morning, however when I woke up, I was acutely aware that my back was exceptionally pain-free and it has been ever since.
I am so grateful for this church where I’ve really learned and am constantly learning how to make Christian Science practical; here at Plainfield we are taught that it’s not just a lovely theory but a practical way of life rooted in the truths of the Bible. I am also so very grateful for my Plainfield Practitioner and her “taint so attitude”; which is a reference to another great article on the website that I highly recommend. Speaking of websites, I am thankful for the excellent Christian Science resources available on our website to read and listen too.
