True Selflessness

Lynda, N.J.r

I would like to express my gratitude for my practitioner’s prayers and the lessons I am learning in this church, which are leading me to understand true selflessness. Christ Jesus and Mary Baker Eddy both instructed their followers to live their lives in a way that blesses others.

Before coming to Plainfield Independent church, I thought I was pretty unselfish. I learned that most of the time, what I was doing was not inspired by God but rather my fearful human will. This was selfish, and believing in a selfhood apart from God. True giving is what we give through God, which also includes His wisdom, strength, and grace. Working with my Plainfield practitioner, I have done much soul searching. I needed to slow down, listen to God, and pay attention to my feelings-where they were leading me. There is great joy and freedom in serving God and His children, and this church offers numerous opportunities for such service.

One quote I love from the Bible is, “Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes.” Isaiah 54

It is a blessing to be part of a mission found here that strives to help others connect with their Father-Mother God, follow the example of Christ Jesus, and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, which are based on the Bible. This church keeps God first.
