Prayer During Government Shutdown Results in Travel Without Delays

I am grateful for another opportunity I had to learn as we are taught in Christian Science to turn away from the testimony of personal sense and instead turn to God, the one Mind that knows what the truth is about any situation that confronts us. Personal sense would love us to accept all that it claims to see, hear and feel as the truth. So, to turn from it as not legitimate for the simple reason that it is not the voice of God talking is the first thing one must do.

My husband and I just returned from a two-week trip to Georgia to see family and friends. Just before leaving, the government shut down, and there were all kinds of concerns about the impact of this on many activities of the federal government, one being travel. There was much being reported as to how this shut down was going to impact those who were going to be traveling stating that long lines in airports and canceled flights were to be expected. My husband was very concerned that we would get caught up in this. I had to shut this down in my own thought and deny that our plans to travel at this time could in any way be interfered with by this situation. I tried to assure him that this will not impact our trip. The thought that came to me was there are no delays in the Kingdom of Heaven. I had been listening to God for the right time to take this trip and this was the result.

The morning we were to leave the house, even though it meant getting up very early I wanted to allow enough time to get ready so I could feel the calmness of Love’s presence and protection as our day of travel started. I knew that what I was affirming as the truth was the truth for all who were traveling that day. We arrived at our first destination in Atlanta without one delay of any kind. When getting ready to return and two more weeks into the shut down my husband again was very concerned about delays and had us get to the airport three and a half hours before our flight. Upon arrival at the Atlanta airport our shuttle stopped right in front of the curbside check in. Consequently, this time our checking in process and the lines through security were so quick that we arrived at my gate two and a half hours before boarding. My husband was going to be going on to Missouri out of another gate and had ample time to get there. For a moment mortal mind wanted to get me upset for having to sit at the gate for so long, but I let that go and was grateful for the time I had to sit and listen and read things that I had brought with me. I was so grateful to God for his love and again showing us that He is always governing us and that by abiding in the secret place of the most High as Psalm 91 assures us we do dwell under the shadow of the Almighty and are safe.

I am so grateful to Mary Baker Eddy for discovering Christian Science and its explanation of the divine Principle behind the words and works of Christ Jesus so that we too can demonstrate the love of God as he did and promised we would do if we followed his example and for my practitioner’s prayers during this time and all that she has taught me.
