New Employment Found Through Prayer

Lenni, GA

I have been very grateful for the wonderful weekly lessons and I especially love how they’ve recently covered the topic of angels. As a kid I always loved this idea of angels as these messengers from God. In the Bible it says “For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jeremiah 29: 11) And then Mrs. Eddy’s definition of angels as: “God’s thoughts passing to man; spiritual intuitions pure and perfect;…” – that fits so well with what the Bible tells us about God and how God thinks towards us and about us and as us. So, it’s really illumined this whole idea of angels and how they appear in our experience. Mrs. Eddy also says that “God is not separate from the wisdom he bestows” so these angel messages come with all the power of God, all the presence of God – they don’t show up half-baked – they come complete with everything that’s needed for whatever situation, because the power and presence of God is what does the healing.

It’s such a beautiful lesson and such an uplift to thought to know that these angel messages are always coming. It’s like Jesus said in our lesson’s Golden Text the other week that he could summon legions of angels, which is such a promise that God’s thoughts are everywhere; they’re always present and available to help and to heal and to save. I was reminded of this because after I was laid off back in September, I had testified previously that I hadn’t initially been feeling fearful about finances or what my new employment might look like, and there had been several things that needed my attention that I could tackle. Also, it was frankly just a joy for me to not be working for a while – I’d been very burned out and had been needing a change for some time. However, a couple weeks ago, I did start to wonder what was coming down the road because my severance was going to be running out and I hadn’t felt any strong sense of direction about what to do in terms of employment. Interestingly, that thought was quickly followed by this calm feeling that when the current source of income (my severance) ran out, that the next step would show up. God had taken care of me and my family every step of the way so I didn’t need to worry about what was going to appear at that point.

Well, fast forward to last week, I got a call from a former co-worker who had left my old company. He wanted to see if I’d be interested in interviewing with this new company that he’d moved over to. I ended up having my first interview the other day with another interview scheduled for later in the week. So this whole thing made me smile because it was just as the angel thought had said – God is taking care of this. We’ll see where these interviews lead. This new company might not be where I end up because as we’re taught here at this church we always test the spirits and we make sure that the steps that we take, whether it’s for a job or anything else – has to be as God directs. But this unfoldment and this timing has certainly been a beautiful reminder of the presence of God’s angels and of the power and love of God that is behind them.
