Work Found After Being Let Go
Mara, MS
Christian Science has not only touched my life in such a positive way, but it has also helped members of my family in many meaningful ways as well. One recent experience involves my son. Several months ago, after graduating college with very high honors, my son landed his first job in his chosen career. Unfortunately, the position turned out to be very different from what he had expected. He was never properly trained, and even small mistakes seemed to be magnified. Still, he worked hard, went in early every day, and did his best. Despite his efforts, he was shortly let go due to what they described as poor performance, after a period of constant criticism.
For months afterward, he searched for a new job. He went on many interviews, but most places never even followed up to let him know whether or not he had been selected. During this time I prayed to know that the jobs he was applying for were being filled by the right person, if not him then by the person who was meant to get the job and that person would be blessed. Although it was discouraging for him, I was able to talk with him regularly about the importance of remaining patient and turning to God—trusting that God already knew what his perfect place was.
I worked with the article “Place” attributed to Mary Baker Eddy and shared it with him, sending him the link to read or listen to as well. I find this article very simple, easy to understand, and especially helpful. I’ve shared it with many others and have received very positive feedback. The whole article is filled with inspiring thoughts and quotes. It begins like this, “The place you seek is seeking you: the place you need, needs you. Divine Principle brings need and supply together for mutual good. God wisely, intelligently and lovingly controls, guides, protects, prospers and blesses this union of his idea (man) and his normal activity (work).“ I have read and prayed using this article many times and it always helps me understand thing’s so much better. Although my son was unemployed for a few months, we talked often about not becoming discouraged and about trusting that, even if he couldn’t yet see God’s plan, good was already unfolding. I described it to him like planting a seed: even though you can’t see what’s happening beneath the soil, if you patiently wait, a sprout will eventually appear.
And that sprout did appear. Around Christmastime, he met his girlfriend’s family, and it turned out that her uncle is the president of a large local company. The company had recently acquired a new business and needed to hire an accountant to help organize its finances. My son interviewed for the position, was offered the job, and is now truly enjoying his work. We are both so grateful to see how God’s guidance was present every step of the way, even when it wasn’t immediately visible. This experience was a beautiful example of God’s loving care and reminded us that His plans are always unfolding for good. I am truly thankful for Christian Science, for my practitioner and for this church, which continues to bless people all around the world!
