Burn Healed
Izzy, England
I would like to give thanks for two wonderful demonstrations. I was pouring boiling water straight from the kettle into a container. My hand slipped and I poured the boiling water straight onto my left hand which was holding the container. I put the pot and the kettle back as quickly as I could and shook the water off but it became painful very quickly. I began to think about how there could be no accidents in God’s Kingdom. A short time later the pain increased and I knew I had to take a few minutes to do a proper treatment, as it were. I began to know that there is no sensation in matter, there is no intelligence in matter and so no substance could affect it whether hot or otherwise, and that matter was unable to be affected by anything. (Based on the “Scientific Statement of Being” from Science and Health With Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, page 468) Within a few minutes the pain completely subsided and did not trouble me again. There was a very faint red mark on my hand where the water landed which disappeared after a couple of days. I was very grateful for this healing.
I couldn’t quite believe it when, a few days later, I burned my other hand. This time I was reaching into the microwave for a mug which was far hotter than I had expected. To get to the microwave I had to lean across the kitchen table, and so instead of just clutching the handle I had closed my whole hand around the mug. The pain was pretty immediate but the table was full of paperwork and my laptop and the mug was full of hot liquid so I had to keep hold until I could get the mug to a safe place. My first thought was to turn to God. I didn’t look at my fingers although I could see from glimpses that the skin looked very red and taut. My second thought was this isn’t going to work this time and I was filled with doubts trying to convince me that the first healing had been a one-off. I kept “porter at the door” of my thoughts (see S&H Page 393) as best I could. It was quite late at night so I did the last of my chores and headed to bed.
It was when I lay down in bed and tried to sleep that the challenges really came – one by one the fingers seemed to scream out in pain and every time I settled down a new wave of pain flood over me. I kept knowing that there is no sensation or intelligence in matter and that I was the reflection of the perfection of God, and could not be touched by error. The line “I am perfect in God,” from “A Treatment for Every Day,” by Mary Baker Eddy is something I have always found very helpful. It must have subsided pretty quickly as before I knew it my morning alarm was going off. I had some very mild soreness the next day which was treated in a similar manner, and this hand has now healed just as well as the other did.
I am so grateful for both demonstrations and so grateful for Christian Science and everything I am learning to make this Science the truth of how I am living. I also wanted to say how grateful I am for the Weekly Bible Lessons. They are always really lovely, but recently they seem to have all been just so beautiful. I don’t know if it is because my understanding has increased, but they seem to mean so much more than ever before. Thank you to the lesson writers and thank you to everyone involved with this lovely church and all the wonderful work being done here.
