Needs Met During Home Purchase

Lenni, NC.

Like so many others who come to our Wednesday testimony meetings, I’ve been extremely grateful to be gaining a deeper understanding of Mrs. Eddy’s life and of Christian Science through the various biographies that we’re encouraged to read. Lately I’ve learned a lot through the work of proofing the audio recordings of the Doris Grekel biography of Mrs Eddy. This biography is a deep dive into her life, how her revelation unfolded, and how she handled the numerous and often malicious attacks and challenges that were levied at her during that time. It’s been very helpful to me to look at that and then apply it to the challenges that come to my life, see them in a different light and more effectively address them.

One example of that is …not that long ago, I had given a testimony about how we had finally found our new home after a long time looking. It was a real demonstration and we’ve felt so blessed by how everything unfolded to bring us to this new place. However, a couple of weeks after moving in, we had a few challenges arise and one especially large, unexpected expense for which we hadn’t budgeted. At first, it was really tempting to be discouraged by this development, and the old devil piped up, trying to imply that maybe finding this house wasn’t a real demonstration, maybe this wasn’t the right move. But in the midst of that, I kept remembering how this had unfolded, and as these suggestions came in, I found myself swatting them away and feeling strongly that God DID place us here and that I could trust that placement, I could trust God’s disposal of events. I felt a great deal of love and gratitude for this house – felt it as I was unpacking our boxes, enjoying our new yard, driving around the new town, etc. Sometimes I’d just get a wave of love and appreciation for the house, and I’d say, “Thank you, God, for putting us here!” So despite the looming expense that we’d have to tackle, I maintained (and my husband did, too) that God would not place us somewhere and then wipe his hands of the situation, saying, “Well, good luck with all that!”

One of the reasons that we’d initially felt concerned when these unforeseen expenses came up was that one of our cars was pretty old, and we’d been talking about needing to replace it. After we got the estimate for this larger repair, we realized we’d probably have to put any car upgrades on the back burner for another year. However, it wasn’t long after we’d been working with those truths of God’s supply that my husband received a call from his boss. His boss proceeded to tell my husband that he was giving him a brand-new company car and that he could essentially just treat that car as his own, including using it for non-company purposes as well. We had to laugh because it was so completely out of the blue – we had no idea it was coming. We could only laugh and praise God because what a need being met and what a clear proof of God’s care, we were so grateful for it! In the lesson the other week on Soul, Mrs. Eddy states that “Soul has infinite resources with which to bless mankind…” and isn’t this just a clear proof of that?! As it is said – we are with Christ in God,” and He does supply our needs when we seek him first and put our love, our trust, and our care in him.

So, I’m very grateful for this unfoldment and for this lesson – very grateful to Mrs. Eddy for giving us this beautiful Science and again for the continuing education in this Science that we have here at Plainfield.
