Adopted Cat Calmed Down After Prayer for Nail Clipping
Elizabeth, NH.
I would like to express my gratitude for an experience that I had just yesterday. I recently adopted an adolescent kitten. Her claws were very sharp, so I made an appointment after trying to cut them myself with no success. When it was time for the appointment, she was very unusually aggressive about being loaded into her backpack carrier. After about 10 minutes of getting scratched and bitten, I decided to carry her to the car, as she had ridden freely in the car successfully before. When we got in the car, I will admit I was very afraid of what lay ahead… They had warned me at the shelter that it would probably take two technicians to do the job, and they did not want to get bitten. At the time I thought well that’s silly, “You’re not going to get bitten by this cat.” But I didn’t exactly “handle” the suggestion, pray about it. Now, after this show of aggression, I was not so confident.
A couple of minutes down the road, I begin to reach out to God, a testimony from when Mary Baker Eddy took a carriage ride where the horses went out of control came to thought, the driver stated “They can’t do it!” meaning that God‘s perfect idea of an animal only includes that which God intended, as the animal is spiritual and not material. I told these Truths to Kitty out loud and I told her she was governed by God. I asked God for His help in seeing the correct picture, and only the correct picture. I was now trusting God with all of my heart. When we got to the shelter, I stopped the car. Kitty was sleeping in the back and I had a quiet moment where I thanked God for His government of every situation. I called Kitty up front. I took her in my arms, went to the door and was greeted by the owner of the shelter, who said that, “No we really didn’t need two people – just hold Kitty” which I did. She was pretty much as still as I’ve ever seen her, quietly waiting while her nails were cut. The lady then offered me a carrier that loaded more easily than the backpack one I had at home. We put her in it, and that was that. So grateful was I for this total transformation in Kitty’s behavior! There is absolutely no situation in the world where we cannot look to God’s goodness and power and prove his ever presence.
