Cleaning Clutter Brings Peace
Lynda, NJ
During a Roundtable on the Lesson Soul, the discussion and readings just washed over me, leaving me with a greater appreciation for this synonym for God. One excerpt shared from a book regarding the time just after World War II. He wrote, “My thought turned to the company surroundings. The premises had been neglected during the war years and looked uninviting and dull to say the least. Again, the irresistible urge to beautify came over me. But there seemed to be no way of paying even the smallest amount for such an undertaking. … By this time, I had also begun to grasp the idea that there is a law of God which supports every normal human footstep for improvement and progress.” This need was met and he was able to help others do the same.(The Ultimate Freedom by John H. Wyndham, page 90)
The result of these practical teachings I was an inspired to beautify my surroundings. Ideas started to flow. The outcome was new, inexpensive storage ideas, rearranging of space, less clutter, a cleaner file system, letting go of unnecessary items and things of the past, which was cleansing, more coordination, and finding items already around to beautify the area. This has been a process I started months ago, but God just moved me through this next step. This has been a lifelong struggle for me, although I love order, the process can be tiring at times. The main goal was to glorify Soul, God. To have a peaceful area to do work for God. During this activity, I took breaks for prayer and rest. I never felt tired or overwhelmed as often in the past. This is a step-by-step effort to bring God into all areas of my daily life, replacing willpower and human effort. It cost very little, felt streamlined, and joyful, rather than times in the past when it felt overwhelming – leaving a sense of order and peace. Attending this church and having access to the writings of Mary Baker Eddy’s early students, who learned from her, has been a blessing. I hope this will be encouraging to others. I thank God for His merciful kindness, Christ Jesus, Mary Baker Eddy, the clear thought of the early workers, and this Independent Christian Science Church.
