Social Drinking and Smoking Healed Through Prayer

Elizabeth, NH

It has come to me to recount a moral healing that I have experienced. I was once, as Mary baker Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science describes it, “a slave to tobacco.” I was also a social drinker, thinking erroneously that alcohol was a way to ease my shyness in social situations. Through Christian Science, both of these false traits dropped away from me as I increased in my spiritual understanding.

Recently, even the desire for caffeine has dropped away. What a blessing to be free of these things and to find that in social situations true joy in talking to people on a more meaningful level. I even find that I laugh more which is one of the reasons that I drank in the first place because I love to laugh.

In Miscellaneous Writings, page 37, Mary Baker Eddy says, “The appetite for alcohol yields to Science as directly and surely as do sickness and sin.” I’m so grateful for these proofs of God’s care and for the teachings of wonderful, provable Christian Science!
