Start the Day Joyous

Michela, Canada

I am grateful for last Saturday’s Bible Study with the theme “Peace on Earth.” A special thanks to Tom who prepares the Bible studies. I like how he has included a poem or a hymn as opening to the Bible studies. It is amazing how we learn through this detail about poems and hymns and their authors. It gives me a broader insight into the history of the Christian Science movement, and a deeper connection to the people who came before us. For this Bible study on November 29, 2025 he chose hymn 310 by John Randall Dunn. It is a joyous hymn about the coming of the Christ. We learned that John Randall Dunn was a joyous Christian Science practitioner despite that he lived through the time of the depression. Although all the lines of hymn 310 are a gem for themselves, the following ones stood out for me:

Dawns on earth harmonious day.
Hear th’angelic song again:
Peace on earth, good will to men.
Sing, ye joyous children, sing,
Glorious is the Christ, our king.

Since, as the morning dawns, I sing this hymn to start my day. What can I say, it is hard to be grumpy when I sing it, it just lifts my spirit up to start the day joyous. Thank you to all who participate. It is so wonderful to see, how everyone in this church plays a part and to keep it vibrant.
