Neighbor’s Lost Wallet Recovered
Frances, MD.
I’m grateful to share a modest example of being witness to God’s law of harmony in operation in the details of daily life. The mother of the family who rents the house across the street texted me that her high-school-age daughter had lost her wallet with her driver’s license and credit cards, probably in the neighborhood. She thought I might have access to the community listserv and asked if I could check to see if someone reported a found wallet. I replied with words of encouragement and expectation of good, and that I would monitor the listserv; we had a cordial exchange of a few text messages, and I asked her to let me know if there were any other ways in which I could be helpful.
I knew I could maintain a prayerful thought; each time I noticed the house across the street or thought of the neighbor’s need, I listened for a spiritual idea to address it. Remembering the words “loss is gain” in one of Mary Baker Eddy’s hymns, I realized this was an opportunity to experience the harmony of God’s omnipresence and that everyone’s spiritual identity was intact as the perfect idea of divine Mind and could not be lost or stolen. I declared that what appeared to be misplaced items were actually ideas in Mind and Mind knows where they are, that they are in their right place, and that can be revealed. It was important to see clearly that there is no separation between Mind and its ideas, that the protecting power of Love is always in operation, and that something that never was, a lie that something was lost, can never be.
After about 5 days, the daughter rang the doorbell and thanked me for being a caring presence in the neighborhood. She held in her hand the missing items with some cash and said someone had mailed them to the address on the driver’s license. I rejoiced with her for this outcome and said I was most grateful to be aware of that and that I had been praying. She handed me a bag with a couple of cookies from my favorite cookie shop. I enjoyed those but continue to rejoice in this experience as evidence of the goodness and the love of God who is All.
My continuing thanks goes to God for bringing to humanity the truths of scientific being through the teachings of our dear Master, Christ Jesus, and through the unselfed devotion of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in being God-guided in her writing of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures to educate its readers of the rules and laws of spiritual healing. I am also sincerely grateful for the multitude of provisions the Plainfield Christian Science Church, Independent, provides to bring the message of Christian Science in its purity to humanity.
