Never Too Old to Learn Something New
Betty, CA.
I want to give thanks for a change of attitude regarding learning new things. One sentence popped out at me when reading the daily watch from 500 Watching Points, #392, a couple of weeks ago. “Instead of dreading changes and fighting off the opportunities for making them, welcome them eagerly as you would a glass of water to quench your thirst — they are youth preservers for you.”
A while ago, I started noticing that when I had to do something new on my phone or computer, I would think, “Oh darn, I have to learn something new?” At this time, I had been listening to and reading items on age on the Plainfield website, like watch #392 mentioned earlier and the article titled Age by Mary Baker Eddy. So when I found myself grumbling about learning something new, alarm bells went off! And I thought, “Okay, it’s time to change my attitude. I don’t want to be a grumpy, old curmudgeon!”
So, the next time something new came up to do on my phone, I was a lot more enthusiastic about learning to do it. I started thinking instead, “Oh good, I get to learn to do a new thing.” What a difference this has made. Even if it seems to take a while, I don’t mind. I remind myself that God is the only mind, so I reflect His all-knowing Mind and express intelligence. And as Elsie said in a calendar statement, “If God knows, I know.” I am very thankful to have learned this “something new.”
I am very grateful for the Plainfield Church and its website, which is full of good articles and information whenever we need it, and for practitioner help over the years.
