Baby Bird Leg Healed
Izzy, England
This summer I had the amazing experience of raising a little brood of baby birds after their nest was disturbed by workmen and it seemed the mother had abandoned them.
Raising these little expressions was both an honor and a beautiful challenge, something that I will remember for the rest of my life. Baby birds need feeding every few minutes from dawn to dusk so it was a real insight into how hard birds have to work to raise their young. As they became more mobile I put their nest into a shower room with the plan to release them from there, through the window.
Eventually the chicks did leave and for a few days they stayed around our garden, coming to feed when I called them and apparently doing well. Then one awful, wet, dark morning I went out to the garden and called them as usual. I soon heard one calling to me, it was a quite urgent call and it sounded like it needed help. It was always so hard to work out where their call is coming from, but this sounded like it was coming from somewhere in the trees above me. I scanned the branches but couldn’t see it. I called and called and this little thing called and called back, but the rain was torrential and eventually I felt I couldn’t do anything more and would come back out later.
We were having a clear out and I had brought a tool out with me that needed to be put into the garden shed. So I walked round the corner to the shed, deposited the tool and headed back. It was here that I saw the bird – not in the tree at all but on the ground, wet and dirty and unable to walk properly. Thanks to God that I had brought the tool out with me, for I would not have spotted the bird otherwise.
As I came close the bird half moved away but opened its mouth to be fed, and this enabled me to pick it up. It nestled immediately in my hand. The leg appeared twisted and it was dragging itself along. I brought it back to the shower room where I had kept the nest and branches intact, just in case they needed to return through the window. It really didn’t look good, tried to make me believe that the leg was broken, and it seemed very sad that after only a few days of freedom the little bird would quite possibly need to be put to sleep.
But I stood porter on the door of my thoughts and I refused to give the suggested appearance any reality. I told the little bird how perfect it was, that it was the perfect expression of God, and was His perfect child. First thing, the bird needed to dry out and warm up, so I fed it its favorite food. It staggered back into its nest and fell straight to sleep.
As the day went by it ventured out and did appear to be struggling on its leg, staggering and unable to perch properly but I held my thought and refused to give it any reality. I refused to look at the leg. A very simple, straightforward sentence came to mind – ‘God makes and governs all’ – and I just held on to that and thought about what it meant for the little bird and for the whole world.
After a couple of days I was so grateful to see that the leg was completely perfect again. Soon the bird was completely fine and able to fly, perch and hop about as normal, and ready to be re-released. I was so blessed to witness this absolutely amazing healing, and I am so grateful to God for this. The whole amazing experience has been a real learning curve, in more ways than one. It gave me incredible insights into some of Creation’s quiet, everyday miracles. I am so, so grateful to Mrs. Eddy for all the work she did to bring Christian Science to the world, and to this church for teaching us the pure Truth with which to live every day. The little nest of birds brought so much happiness. Numerous people came to see them and had a go at feeding them and everyone was entranced by the wonder of them. Releasing them into God’s care was bittersweet. I was desperately needing to get back to work, and back to life, but I so miss their constant, high-pitched, deafening chirping which filled every waking second. I am so grateful to God for sharing this amazing experience with me.
