Prayer for Others Brings Healing

Bruce, NJ

Many years ago when I was brand new to this church, it’s kind of amazing how much I had to learn, but I thank God that he brought me here and I have the opportunity to learn.

One morning I woke up and I was not feeling well. I ended up not going to work that day. But I did have the opportunity to call a practitioner in this church and just say, “I’m not feeling so good.” The practitioner instructed me to read from Miscellaneous Writings an article by Mary Baker Eddy entitled “Contagion.” So I gladly did that. Actually, I was a bit surprised how ignorant I was about what all was in Mrs. Eddy’s collection of writings in a book called Prose Works because I’d never even heard of this article before.

I gladly read it and I was really struck with one statement where she says, “If only the people would believe that good is more contagious than evil since God is omnipresent.” That one really stuck to me and I needed to say the practitioner was praying and quite frankly when I finished this article I felt just fine.

I was healed and apparently there were several others that were dealing with similar challenges. So, the other lesson that I learned there was not only that we had to work with the right ideas, but not to focus on ourselves so much and focus more on the all embracing love of God that really does encompass everyone.

I was very grateful to read this statement in the article entitled “Contagion” and also to lift my thought just off of myself and embrace everybody because after all, God is omnipresent. He’s everywhere and his love is for everyone. So grateful for that experience.
