Car Repair Delays Reversed by Prayer

Nancy, TX

I’d like to express my gratitude for Christian Science and how one can apply it to any situation they are confronting. Last fall, I went on a long distance road trip by myself. Halfway through my trip, I had a car accident in a town where I knew no one. At the point of impact, I reached out to God and affirmed that both myself and the other person involved were held under God’s eternal law of protection. Neither of us were hurt in any way.

But my car was not driveable. The tow truck driver asked me where I wanted him to tow my car. Since I was on my way to a family member’s home some two hours away, I told him to take it to a dealership in that town so they could make repairs. I rode in the cab of the tow truck with a very nice young man. Upon arriving at the dealership, my brother came to get me and I had a nice two day visit with him and his wife. My insurance paid for a rental car, so I was able to drive back home where I waited for my car to be repaired. This happened the week before Thanksgiving. I waited and waited for the repairs to be completed. Christmas came and went, and my car was still not finished. New Year’s Day came and went. I kept in touch with the manager of the repair shop but he said several parts were back ordered and he was doing his best.

Now I had been reading the Doris Grekel biographies of Mrs. Eddy. And I was amazed at how many times the building of The Mother Church met impossible odds and was finished on the last day possible to meet the deadline. I realized that I had been coasting along, not really doing any prayerful work about my situation. So, I got busy and started to work metaphysically, knowing that God governed everyone and He was in charge, not the repair shop manager.

The next day, the manager called and asked where I lived. I told him I was two hours away and I also needed to return my rental car. He then asked if I would be okay with him driving my car to my home and returning my rental car for me. I was thrilled at his offer and said yes, of course. The next day, he arrived in my car, which was repaired beautifully, and he returned my rental car for me. I was thrilled!

I learned a lot of things from this entire episode, but most of all, I learned that I couldn’t just let life throw things at me and hope for the best, but I needed to work and know the Truth about everything in my experience. I am thankful for Christ Jesus our Wayshower, for Mary Baker Eddy and her perseverance in giving us the Comforter promised by Jesus, for Plainfield Church, and its practitioners.
