Single Woman Able to Take Care of Home Through God’s Care
Shahidat, MD
A few weeks back, I found out the water spigot in my backyard was stuck; I contacted a plumber who came out to assess the situation. After an initial assessment, they promised to return after a scheduled vacation to provide a detailed quote and begin the work. However, he never came back, and so I was led to contact another plumber who completed the work. However, the first time I tried to use the “fixed” spigot, the entire unit completely detached from the wall, causing the water to freely gush into the back yard. This occurred on a Wednesday evening before our testimony service. While I was tempted to panic, I realized that this was an aggressive suggestion to rattle my peace and deter me from working for the service, and so I refused to be moved. I was able to turn off the main water supply to the house to stem the water flow and sent an urgent text to the plumber, who happened to be an hour away at another job site.
Regardless, the plumber arrived that same evening at about 9 pm to cap the water spigot pipe so I could turn the water supply to the house back on. A few days later, he came back as promised and installed a permanent fix that works beautifully. It’s been a little over a decade since I became a homeowner, and I remember how shortly after closing, one well-meaning person inquired how I, as a single lady with a seeming physical mobility challenge, would be able to take care of a house. In the subsequent year, I have never lacked in my efforts to care for my home and am so grateful to God for sending me the right skilled persons to assist with any need that has arisen over the years. I am so thankful for Christian Science and our independent Christian Science church, as well as for the loving help of my practitioner.
