Stalking Behavior Stopped Through Prayer
Lynda, N.J.
I am very grateful to be here tonight and to be part of this church community, learning the correct and practical Christian Science. Recently, my son recalled an event that took place about ten years ago. It occurred when he was in high school. I was new to this church and had just started attending, and one of the many healings I experienced was the result of my practitioner’s prayers.
My son was being harassed and stalked by a young woman at his school. He would show me the calls and letters and tell me about other experiences with her. He did not do anything wrong and tried to show that he was not interested in being romantically involved with her. During this time, I brought this to the attention of my practitioner, and she was praying about the situation and instructing me in the truth as I took human steps to remediate the problem. As we started to request that she stop contacting him, rather than comply, the behavior increased. It seemed evident that she had some connections that she felt allowed her to act with impunity. I do remember the clarity of my practitioner that nothing was beyond God’s control and government. I was learning about God’s protection for all involved, developing moral courage to face challenges while holding to simple facts such as – “You stand with Principle, and Principle stands with you.” Also, I was given from Collectanea, on page 56, Mrs. Eddy states, “Do we not all understand cowardice never conquers? To get rid of a temptation of any sort or to get out of a difficulty, we are not passive and let the wrong rule the right, but we struggle and thus conquer.” Through her prayers, I was becoming firmer, calmer, and more focused on the right path.
I recall that at one point, I took a step by writing a letter to the parents, essentially making it clear that the behavior was unacceptable and needed to stop. It was not long after that the behavior stopped and never reoccurred. I know that the wording I was led to use, combined with the courage and care I felt for the young woman, was a result of my practitioner’s prayers and was what healed the problem. Going through this situation also helped me become stronger in standing for what is right, and it gave me the courage to make other essential stands for principle later on. This was not one human will against another human will, but rising above, where God is in the center. It is not about persons but about doing what is right, and He certainly wants us to do what is right. Mary Baker Eddy writes in Retrospection and Introspection on page 86, “No one can save himself without God’s help, and God will help each man who performs his own part.” One of the things my son remembered was that I tore up the upsetting letters she had sent. Looking back now, it was symbolic that this was not to be tolerated, not to be kept around the home, and, as often said at this church, to ensure that error has no history. I’m grateful that God is with us and guides us with divine grace, also for Christ Jesus, Mary Baker Eddy, Christian Science, my practitioner, and this church, a beacon of light.
